The 3 harmful side effects of using Nasal Sprays
Written by Austin Goh on March 03rd 2020
Nasal Sprays are extremely popular. With so many sold, why are people unaware of the harmful side effects? In the United States alone the sales of Nasal Sprays account for $1bn of revenue each year!
Now, before we get into the specifics. Let’s examine which type of Nasal Sprays are out there.

There are 3 common types of Nasal sprays.

1. Decongestants
2. Salt Water Sprays
3. Steroid Sprays

Each type has their own applications.

Decongestants are used to get rid of a stuffy nose.
They work by spraying chemicals into the Nasal Linings. The aim is to shrink the blood vessels and force the swollen tissues to shrink.

Salt water sprays do not contain any medications and can be bought without a prescription. Their aim is to reduce inflammation and prevent mucus from drying up.

Steroid sprays are used to reduce allergy symptoms. But also are used to treat stuffy noses from a Sinus infection.

Now we know what types are out there. Let’s examine the harmful side effects.

1) Nasal Sprays are highly addictive

Chemical Nasal sprays have been found to be as highly addictive as Morphine.

Let’s put that into perspective. Morphine is a very well protected drug and can only be accessed if you have a serious medical condition.

Yet something so simple as a Nasal Spray is as addicting, if not more than this powerful drug. Yet why do not many people see the dangers?

A sniff here or a sniff there seems harmless. But you are actually starting the habit of a powerful addiction.

It’s been estimated from studies that at least 10 million people in the United States alone are addicted to them!

Be careful what you consume. Before you take another stiff - think about what you are really doing.

Unfortunately for most people, after a few hits on the spray. They go way past the recommended 3 day usage of a Nasal Spray.

This leads to a lifetime dependency and trying to clear your stuffy nose symptoms with this product.

But it only reduces the symptoms temporarily. Until you need to buy another and get stuck in a vicious cycle.

2) Salt water Nasal Sprays will irritate your Nasal Linings

It is a common myth that salt promotes better healing. The Nasal linings are extremely sensitive.

If they have already been infected and inflamed, spraying salt on them will make things worse.

It can increase swelling and promote an environment for bacteria and infections to run wild.

It is important to keep your nasal linings dry, so that the inflammation and swelling can reduce without interference.

3) If you have an existing health issue, using a spray can be lethal

If you have an existing health condition such as:

High Blood Pressure
Heart Condition
Diabetes
Thyroid

Decongestants manipulate your blood pressure and can be lethal.

It is estimated that in the UK, 50% of people with High Blood pressure have not been diagnosed. The same goes for Thyroid issues, 60% of people go undiagnosed. That is a large proportion.

It’s one thing if you know you have an existing condition, not to take these decongestants. But are you sure that you do not have another underlying health issue?

Taking a Decongestant spray could end up being lethal for you.

Proceed with caution and before you rush to solve the problem - my advice is to consider the whole picture of your health.
